Questions, answered.

Is CopyStr free?

Yes. CopyStr is a free download and works without an account or subscription.

Which Macs does it run on?

macOS 13 Ventura or later on Apple Silicon. The app is a small native binary built with Rust and Tauri.

Does my clipboard leave my Mac?

No. History is stored in a local SQLite database on your Mac. CopyStr only goes online to check copystr.com for a new version.

How do I open the clipboard history?

Press the global hotkey, Cmd+Shift+V by default, and the history opens at your cursor. You can also click the menu bar icon or set your own shortcut in Settings.

What about passwords and API keys?

CopyStr detects sensitive content such as passwords, tokens and API keys and can skip storing it. Private mode suppresses recording entirely while it is on.

How do updates work?

CopyStr checks copystr.com on launch and from the menu bar, then installs signed updates in place, so you keep your history and settings.
